Cupping therapy is a technique which uses suction cups in a stationary or mobile method to loosen the fascia around the muscle and increase circulation and blood flow. Helps break up scar tissue, connective tissue, pain and swelling. Note that cupping may leave circular "bruising" on the skin that may last multiple days. These marks are not painful and are the result of stagnant blood being brought to the surface to make room for fresh oxygenated blood, in result improving circulation. Benefits include improved circulation, breakup of scar tissue, decrease in swelling.
With similar techniques to Swedish massage, deep tissue offers a more therapeutic approach, using deeper pressure to really stimulate the muscles and release trigger points.
Myofascial Release is a technique that includes stretching of the skin and the fascia underneath to decrease pain and improve mobility.
Gua Sha meaning "scraping" is a technique in which flat edged tools are used to scrape the surface of the skin to release the fascia and muscle adhesions. Much like cupping, Gua Sha may also leave "bruising" or rash like dots on the skin that will last a few days. Benefits of Gua Sha include breakup of scar tissue, increase in mobility, improved circulation, and promotes lymphatic drainage.
Hot stones used during massage is a great way to warm up the body and promote relaxation. The combination of massage therapy and heat increases blood flow to the area, treating achy muscles and improving healing.
Trigger Point Therapy is the technique of applying various pressure directly to a trigger point, or knot, to get it to release.
